Your quick reference

Amount to callPot after you call × 100

This is your required equity: how often you need to win to break even.

Bet size	Need to win
¼ of the pot	16.7%
⅓ of the pot	20%
½ of the pot	25%
⅔ of the pot	28.6%
Full pot	33.3%
2× the pot	40%

Bet size is measured against the pot before the opponent bets.

Count your chances

Winning outs are cards you expect to put you ahead against an assumed opponent hand or range. Pair cards can be potential outs, but are not certain winners. The card-selection exercise grades only its stated draw target.

One card to come: outs × 2
Two cards to come: outs × 4

These are shortcuts. Play a hand counts every possible runout against the actual hand after your decision, including ties and redraws.

The two-card trap

Only use the two-card chance for a calling decision when the call guarantees both cards, typically when all-in. Otherwise, you could have to pay again on the turn.
